Are you planning to get into the honey bees beekeeping for business or planning to take beekeeping up as a hobby? Well, read on…

Honey bees beekeeping can be a very satisfying and lucrative experience. So, if you are interested in starting your own beehive, then you may find the following information useful:

Honey bees beekeeping projects should be set up close to flowers that produce nectar and pollen. You must also ensure that proper shade and shelter are available at the site. However, do take care to avoid low spots as cold and damp air generally accumulates in them.

Another important point to keep in mind is to ensure that the location doesn’t create problems for neighbors or vice versa. Bee flight paths should preferably not cross walkways, playgrounds, pools and other public areas.

Always place water in a container around the hives. Do not forget to place pebbles in water so that these bees have a place to park themselves while drinking from the container.

Artificial bee hives cost around $150 and are just like the natural bee hives. If you want to go for a very easy way to start your business, then go to a reputed beekeeper, and buy 2 sets of established colonies.

You may also start your honey bees beekeeping business by investing in packaged bees. In this case, transfer the set of bees into the hive boards. Then spray the bees with sugar syrup to make them easy to pour.

The bees must be managed in accordance to the natural nectar flows. You should be able to witness the maximum strength of the bee colonies just before the nectar starts to flow.

The months of January and February are fixed for feeding and medication as it is during this period that the queen lays eggs. At this time some hives may need supplemental feeding. You can either mix one part sugar one part water to feed the bees or opt for commercially available bee pollen supplements that come with extra proteins.

Mid-February should be reserved for inspections. A warm day is the best for doing the same.

In mid-April, honey bees collect the surplus nectar. Both brood and honey production generally drop significantly in late summer and starting of autumn.

If population and production increases at any point, it’s a good idea to split the hives. You can extract liquid honey by using special honey extracting equipment such as uncapping knife, uncapping tank, extractor, strainer, and a storage tank.
